Shop 22, Emporium, 1000 Ann St; mains $10-23; 6.30am-3pm)
There's a real buzz
about this upmarket cafe in the flashy Emporium retail precinct, just away from the Valley
fray. It's an open-walled design (like so many places in Brisbane), with fancy red-and-
white awnings: inside, business conversations buzz over wagyu beef burgers, smoothies,
gluten-free salads and decent coffee. Aim for the home-made savoury mince with poached
egg and horseradish mayo.

Inside James St Market, this upscale deli serves gloriously rich
pastas, salads, soups and colossal paninis and lasagne slabs. The fresh juices are a liquid
meal unto themselves. Walls are lined with deli produce: vinegars, oils, herbs and
hampers. You'll feel hungry as soon as you walk in!

There's no signage here - just a pair of black doors next to the Wickham Hotel

realm from Japanese tempura vegetables to Thai chilli prawns and Turkish octopus. Book-
