Out the back there's a deck overlooking the enticing pool. No air-con but real value for
money, with far more class than your average hostel. The only downside is the walls
between rooms are a bit thin (built before TV was invented).

Al-
lender's apartments are a mixed bag. In the plain yellow-brick building are simply fur-
nished but clean rooms. More attractive are the heritage apartments in the adjoining Fin-
gal House, a 1918 Queenslander with polished timber floors, oak furniture and access to a
private verandah or courtyard.

In a beaut location near the Story Bridge, this postmodern-looking, seven-
storey hotel has handsome rooms and apartments with minimalist design, high-end fix-
tures and plenty of space. The biggest apartments sleep six - good value for a full house.

affable, old-school motel near 'the Gabba' cricket ground; it's 20 minutes' walk to the
city. Shoot for a room on the top floor, with palm trees rustling outside your window.

basic roadside motel sure ain't flashy, but the rooms are big, clean and spartan and have
kitchenettes. There's a barbecue by the pool and the staff are quick with a smile. Aim for a
room at the back away from the street.
