Set in
a photogenic, two-storey timber Queenslander on the appealingly named Cricket St, Aussie
Way feels more like a homely guesthouse than a hostel, with spacious, tastefully furnished
rooms and a fab pool for sticky Brisbane afternoons. The doubles in the second building
out the back are just lovely. All quiet after 10.30pm.

This immaculate, well-run hostel has a rooftop pool and a sun-
deck with incredible river views. The maximum dorm size is six beds (not too big); most
have bathrooms. Big on security, activities, tours and kitchen space (lots of fridges). The
cafe/bar has trivia nights and happy hours, but this is a YHA, not party central. Parking
$10.

This garish aqua building on the CBD fringe has small, clean, modern rooms, and
there's a roof deck with fab river views (just like the YHA up the road, but from a slightly
reduced altitude). There are 150 beds here, but if they're full the affiliated Brisbane City
Backpackers is a couple of doors away.

On the Upper Roma St hostel row, this hyperactive party palace
makes good use of its limited outdoor space, including a viewing tower, pool and barbecue
area. Rooms and dorms are generally well kept, and the on-site bar has something happen-
ing every night: DJs, pool comps, quiz nights, karaoke… Free wi-fi too.
