Chicken Brood Coop
A simple chicken coop with a homemade door and slanted roof provides three sides of shelter. We
used a sheet of tin we salvaged from an old barn for the roof of this brood coop. It can be used to
house a setting hen while she incubates the eggs, as a transitional pen for baby chicks when you
bring them outdoors, or as a quarantine coop for new arrivals to your backyard farm.
Supplies:
1 4' sheet of sheet metal
8 2×4s, 8' long each
1 4×8 sheet of 1 2 " or 3 4 " USB/plywood board
2 small hinges
1 door latch
1 box of 1" screws
Steps:
1. Cut plywood 3' wide and 44" long for the floor of the coop. Cut two 2×4 posts at 36" and
two posts at 24" to serve as the legs. Cut two 2×4 posts 44" long for braces at the bottom of
the cage and two more 48" long for the top. Cut eight braces from 2×4s that are 36" long for
bracing the floor and roof.
