root cellar will provide months of fresh fruit.

You may have seen pictures of a heap of pumpkins in the corner of the root cellar. In reality, if
you store winter squash so they are touching, the skins will soften where they are making contact.
Don't stack them on top of each other. Keep them insulated with a pile of straw between them.
