eggs there. Then when you harvest the honey from those top boxes later, you'll be able to harvest
only honey and comb without worrying about whether eggs have been laid there.
This is an eight-frame hive box with shallow frames. These boxes will be easier to handle when they are filled
with honey because they will be lighter.

Note the queen excluder screen in front of the hive. These holes are too small for the queen's larger
body but big enough to allow the worker bees to access any supers placed above the excluder. As this
hive grows, additional supers will be added above the excluder, keeping the queen from laying eggs
on frames with honey.
