Salema Restaurant
(mains 30-250B; 7am-8pm) One of the friendliest restaurants in town also happens to be
the most delicious. Salema does tasty Muslim-Chinese dishes, and is at the southern end
of town.

There is an ATM at the Thai Military Bank opposite Khumnaiphol Resort, at the southern
end of town. An internet cafe (per hr 20B;
9am-11pm) can be found next door.
Getting There & Away
To get to Mae Salong by bus, take a Mae Sai-bound bus or minivan from Chiang Rai to
Ban Pasang (20B to 25B, 30 minutes, every 20 minutes from 6am to 8pm). From Ban Pas-
ang, blue so ̆ rngta ̆ aou head up the mountain to Mae Salong when full (60B, one hour, from
6am to 5pm). To get back to Ban Pasang, sŏrngtă aou park near Mae Salong's lone
7-Eleven. So ̆ rngta ̆ aou stop running at around 5pm but you can charter one in either direc-
tion for about 500B.
You can also reach Mae Salong by road from Tha Ton. Yellow sŏrngtă aou bound for
Tha Ton stop near Little Home Guesthouse at 8.20am, 10.20am, 12.20pm and 1.50pm
(60B, one hour).

BAN BO LUANG
Ban Bo Luang (also known as Ban Bo Kleua, or Salt Well Village) is a picturesque Htin village south-
east of Doi Phu Kha National Park where the long-standing occupation has been the extraction of salt
from local salt wells. The village is a good base for exploring Doi Phu Kha National Park ( Click here )
and Khun Nan National Park ( 0 5477 8140; adult/child 100/50B; 8am-4.30pm), the latter
with a 2km walk from the visitor centre that ends in a viewpoint looking over local villages and
nearby Laos, acommodation (bungalows 800B to 1600B) and a basic restaurant.
The town's best accommodation is Boklua View ( 08 1809 6392; www.bokluaview.com ; r &
bungalows incl breakfast 1850B; ), an attractive and well-run hillside resort overlooking the
village and the Nam Mang that runs through it. There are a few small restaurants serving basic dishes
in Ban Bo Luang.
To reach the village, you must first take a bus or sŏrngtăaou to Pua (50B, two hours, hourly from
7am to 5pm). Get off at the 7-Eleven then cross the highway to board one of the three daily
sŏrngtăaou (80B, one hour) that depart at 9am, 10.30am and 12.30pm.
