staff of foreign nationals who speak a variety of languages. It's on the eastern side of the
river, just south of the superhighway.

Guesthouses, restaurants and cafes in Chiang Mai have free wi-fi access. A few guest-
houses and cafes still have internet-enabled terminals though these are quickly disappear-
ing.

modern hospital in town.
McCormick Hospital ( 0 5392 1777; www.mccormick.in.th ; 133 Th Kaew Nawarat) Former mis-
sionary hospital; good for minor treatments.
TOURIST INFORMATION
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT; 0 5327 6140; www.tourismthailand.org ; Th Chiang Mai-
Lamphun; 8.30am-4.30pm) English-speaking staff provide maps and recommendations for
tour guides. It's just over Saphan Lek on the eastern side of the river. At the time of writ-
ing the office had temporarily relocated to 164/94-95 Th Chang Khlan while a new build-
ing was being constructed on the original site.

AIR
Regularly scheduled flights arrive into and depart from Chiang Mai International Airport.
The airport is 3km south of the centre of the old city; airport taxis cost a flat 120B, and
