Kayaking & Rafting
There has been an explosion in popularity in kayaking in the past few years. In Vietnam,
many standard Halong Bay tours now include kayaking through the karsts, or you can
choose a kayaking specialist and paddle around majestic limestone pinnacles, before
overnighting at a remote bay. Other kayaking destinations in Vietnam include Cat Ba
( Click here ) , Phong Nha ( Click here ), Dalat ( Click here ) and rivers of the Hoi An ( Click
here ) region. In Laos you'll find easy to adrenalin-level kayaking trips offered in Luang
Prabang ( Click here ) , Nong Khiaw ( Click here ) , Vang Vieng ( Click here ) and on Don
Det ( Click here ) in Si Phan Don (4000 Islands). In Cambodia, you'll find mellow river
paddling trips offered in Stung Treng ( Click here ) , Kratie ( Click here ) , Battambang
( Click here ) and Kampot ( Click here ) . Sea kayaking opportunities abound on Cambodia's
Otres Beach ( Click here ) , Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem ( Click here ) , and over the
border on Ko Chang ( Click here ), Thailand. Kayaking starts from US$5/20 per hour/day.
Though white-water rafting is in its infancy in the Mekong region and the rivers are
fairly tame most of the year, things can get a little more vigorous in the wet season. Rafting
in Vietnam is available out of Dalat ( Click here ) and Nha Trang ( Click here ) . In Thailand,
it is possible to include rafting on treks out of Chiang Mai ( Click here ) or Chiang Rai
( Click here ) or, for something more specialised, try a two- to three-day rafting trip out of
Nan ( Click here ) or Pai ( Click here ).
