the river with a whiff of style: think tidy bathrooms and seductive maroon-stained walls.
Opposite is a shaded terrace restaurant. To find it leave Sunrise strip far behind and head
toward the French Bridge.

ness of this teepee 'resort', in a field near a friendly village about a 15-minute walk south
of the main Sunset Blvd strip. Aussie host Jon grows vegies, bakes bread, loves music
consummately and screens movies in the open air. The teepees are utterly unique, and
there's a kitchen.

Crazy Gecko
( [e-mail] ; r 150,000K; ) Funky Crazy Gecko's four rooms surround a balcony
festooned with hammocks, sculptures and random furniture. Bathrooms are shared (for
now) and rooms are fragrant and simple. The riverside restaurant across the path is de-
lightful. The guesthouse is between Ban Hua Det and Don Det Village.

Sengthavan Guesthouse & Restaurant
( 020 5613 2696; Sunset Blvd; r 100,000K; ) Probably the best the sunset side has to offer
in the budget range, Sengthavan's en suite rooms are fastidiously clean and enjoy un-
cluttered balcony views of Cambodia. Its low-key cafe has recliner cushions, checked
tablecloths and a Lao menu. A few minutes walk south of Ban Hua Det on sunset side.

Dalom Guesthouse
( 020 5418 8898; Sunrise Blvd; r with fan/air-con 80,000/160,000K; ) This is the best option
if you want to be near the centre of the action in Ban Hua Det. If comfort is more import-
ant than being right on the river, you'll find good-value fan bungalows in the garden and
spiffy air-con rooms in a two-storey concrete structure.
