after dark, Bamboozle offers a decent range of comfort food, including pizzas, as well as
the best of Lao cuisine. A percentage of profits go towards the Lone Buffalo Foundation
(LBP; www.facebook.com/lonebuffalo ) , which supports the town's youth.
Nisha Restaurant

northern Laos. The menu includes a wide range of vegetarian options and there's also de-
licious dosa (flat bread), tikka masala and rogan josh, as well as great lassis.

spicy meats, including steaming fĕr . The pork with ginger is lovely.
Craters Bar & Restaurant

lers, Craters has CNN on the tube as you munch through its toasties, soups, burgers, fried
chicken, steaks and pizzas.

Currency exchange is available at Lao Development Bank ( 061-312188) , at BCEL (
061-213291; Rte 7) and from several travel agents. There are two ATMs along Rte 7.
Don't underestimate the dangers of UXO (unexploded ordnance) in this most heavily
bombed of provinces.
Lao-Mongolian Friendship Hospital ( 061 312 166) Might be able to assist with minor health
concerns.
Post Office ( 8am-4pm Mon-Fri, to noon Sat) Domestic phone service.
Provincial Tourist Office ( 061-312217) The oddly located tourist office has developed some
regional treks. Free maps and leaflets for Phonsavan and Xieng Khuang Province are also
available. The yard is crammed full of war junk.
