but works perfectly. Chill over a fruit shake, play a board game or volleyball, or lose your-
self in a sea of candles come sunset. Yoga by day, bar snacks by night, this place pulls in
the backpacker crowd.

and Duvel. The gardens are pretty, and the snacks and breakfasts are delicious, including
stoofvlees (beef stew).

misleadingly named Royal Lao Ballet puts on slow-moving traditional dances accompan-
ied by a 10-piece Lao 'orchestra'. Performances last about 1¼ hours and include a
Ramayana-based scene. It's worth reading the notes provided at the entrance to have an
idea of what's going on.
