Peak tourism season is back and the weather is fine, so the chances of a white Christ-
mas are very slim unless you happen to be climbing Vietnam's highest peak, Fan-
sipan.
Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas. Most of the region has adopted Christmas in some shape
or form, but for the sizeable Catholic population of Vietnam it is serious business, with im-
portant services in churches and cathedrals across the country.
Ramadan
Observed in the Cham areas of Cambodia and Vietnam during October, November or
December, the Muslim fasting month requires that Muslims abstain from food, drink, cigar-
ettes and sex between sunrise and sunset.
Lao National Day
This 2 December holiday celebrates the 1975 victory over the monarchy with parades and
speeches. Lao national and communist flags are flown around the country. Celebration is
mandatory.
