A mini-high in the midst of the low season, the summer months see Europeans head to
the region to coincide with long summer holidays back home. The rain keeps falling.
Khao Phansaa
Early in the monsoonal rains, Buddhist monks retreat into monasteries in Cambodia, Laos
and Thailand. This is the traditional time for young men to enter the monkhood or when
monks begin a retreat for study and meditation. Worshippers offer candles and donations to
the temples and attend ordinations.
