In-Depth Information
January
This is peak tourist season with the region just about as busy as it gets as Europeans
and North Americans escape the cold winter. For serious revellers, January also sees
the rare occurrence of two new-year celebrations in a month.
Tet
The Big One! Vietnamese Lunar New Year is Christmas, New Year and birthdays all rolled
into one. Travel is difficult at this time, as transport is booked up and many businesses
close. Falls in late January or early February.
Chinese New Year
Always occurring at the same time as Vietnamese New Year, these festivities are headline
news in major cities in the region such as Phnom Penh and Bangkok. Expect businesses to
close for a few days and dragon dances to kick off all over town.
