In-Depth Information
The new SEA Cambodia Fastcat ( www.seacambodia.com ) departs four times a day from the
Serendipity Beach jetty, arriving at Koh Rong in less than one hour (one-way US$13).
Koh Sdach Archipelago
Between Sihanoukville and Koh Kong, just off the southwest tip of Botum Sakor National
Park , is this modest archipelago of 12 small islands, most of them uninhabited. Access is
via the park (private vehicle only) or on the daily slow boat from Sihanoukville to Koh
Sdach (US$10, 4½ hours), which departs around noon (or 8pm in the other direction).
Koh Sdach has the only village of any size and a couple of places to stay, including up-
scale, Belgian-owned Belinda Beach Lovely Resort ( 017 517517; www.belindabeach.com ; r incl
breakfast US$130; ) . It has four well-appointed concrete bungalows and superb food,
but lacks a trophy beach.
A short outboard ride from Koh Sdach is tiny Koh Totang , home to Nomad's Land ( 011
916171; www.nomadslandcambodia.com ; bungalows US$40-135) , a delightfully chilled-out is-
land retreat on a lovely stretch of white beach. The resort is closed from June to October.
Koh Kong
The west coast of Cambodia's largest island shelters seven pristine beaches fringed with
coconut palms and lush vegetation, just as you'd expect in a true tropical paradise. At the
sixth beach from the north, a narrow channel leads to a Gilligan's Island-style lagoon.
The island, about 25km south of Koh Kong, is not part of any national park and is thus
susceptible to rampant development. It recently got its first resort, Koh Kong Island Resort (
035-936371; www.kohkongisland.net ; bungalows US$40-90) , with a range of rustic all-wooden
bungalows.
The best way to get here is on a tour from Koh Kong (full day per person including
lunch and snorkelling equipment US$25, or overnight for US$55).
