Getting Around
Arriving in Sihanoukville, most buses these days terminate at the new public bus terminal
and do not continue to their central terminals. Prices to the Serendipity Beach area from
the new bus station are fixed at a pricey US$2/6 for a moto / remorque . You can do better
by walking out to the street.
A moto / remorque should cost about US$1/2 from the city centre to Serendipity.
Motorbikes can be rented from many guesthouses for US$5 to US$7 a day. For fun-
draising purposes, the police sometimes 'crack down' on foreign drivers. Common viola-
tions: no driver's licence, no helmet, and no wing mirrors and driving with the lights on
during the day.
Bicycles can be hired from many guesthouses for about US$2 a day, or try Eco-Trek
Tours at Mick & Craig's for mountain bikes.

Around Sihanoukville
Ream National Park
Just 15km east of Sihanoukville, this large park offers potential trekking in primary forest,
invigorating boat trips through coastal mangroves and long stretches of unspoilt beach.
This is an easy escape for those looking to flee the crowds of Sihanoukville.
Fascinating two- to three-hour jungle walks (per person US$6-10) are led by rangers, most
of whom speak English; these are easy to arrange at the park headquarters ( 012 875096,
016 767686; 7am-5pm) . Hiking unaccompanied is not allowed. Ranger-led boat trips (1-5
people US$50) on the Prek Toeuk Sap Estuary and its mangrove channels are another option.
To get to some deserted beaches on your own, drive south from the park HQ and the air-
port for about 9km along a sealed road until you get to Ream Naval Base, then follow dirt
roads to a series of long white beaches lined with casuarina trees.
The park HQ is opposite Sihanoukville's airport - turn right (south) off NH4 15km east
of Sihanoukville. A return trip by moto should cost US$8 to US$14, depending on how
long you stay.
