GETTING TO CAMBODIA & LAOS
Pleiku to Ban Lung (Cambodia)
Getting to the border Remote and rarely used by foreigners, the Le Thanh/O Yadaw border crossing
lies 90km from Pleiku and 64km from Ban Lung, Cambodia. From Pleiku there's a daily Noi Thinh
bus at 7.30am (60,000d, two hours) from the main marketplace on Ɖ Tran Phu direct to the Cambodi-
an border at Le Thanh. You can also get to Le Thanh by buses from the main bus terminal, travelling
via Moc Den (40,000d, two hours, four daily), from where local buses (20,000d, 15km) head to the
border. Get as early a start as you can.
At the border Cambodian visas (US$20) are issued at the border (you'll need a passport-sized photo).
Moving on From O Yadaw, on the Cambodian side of the border, local buses (US$8) or motorbikes
(around US$25) head to Ban Lung. There are far fewer transport options in the afternoon.

Kon Tum to Attapeu (Laos)
Getting to the border The Bo Y/Phou Keua border crossing is 86km northwest of Kon Tum and
about 119km southeast of Attapeu (Laos). From Pleiku bus station, Mai Linh buses leave daily at
6.30am for Attapeu (250,000d, seven hours), continuing to Pakse (420,000d, 11½ hours). Kon Tum
Tourist can arrange for you to join the bus when it passes through Kon Tum at around 8.15am.
Crossing the border independently can be a challenge. On the Vietnamese side, the nearest major
town is Ngoc Hoi, which can be reached by bus from Kon Tum (34,000d, 1½ hours). You'll have to
catch a minibus from Ngoc Hoi to the border (12,000d, 30 minutes). On the Lao side, things are even
quieter and you'll be at the mercy of passing traffic to hitch a ride onwards.
At the border Vietnamese visas aren't available at this border, but Lao visas are available for most
nationalities (between US$30 and US$42).
Moving on Buses from Pleiku arrive in Attapeu around 1.30pm, where a free lunch is included as part
of your fare if you're travelling with Mai Linh. You'll arrive in Pakse around 6pm.

Drinking & Nightlife
There have been a number of reports of dodgy cocktail buckets (laced with moonshine or
drugs) doing the rounds in bars and clubs. Keep an eye on what goes into the bucket or
avoid them completely - you don't want your night to end in paranoia, illness or robbery.
