BEAUTIFUL BEACHES
There are many pristine stretches of sand along the southeast coast, some of which see very few tour-
ists. Here's our top five from north to south:
My Khe
Located near the site of the infamous My Lai Massacre, My Khe (not to be confused with the
other My Khe Beach near Danang) is a great beach, with fine white sand and clear water.
Vung Ro Bay
The most easterly point on the mainland and famed for its beautiful and isolated bays,
which hide some unspoilt beaches.
Whale Island
Off the coast to the north of Nha Trang, Whale Island is a tiny speck on the map, home
to the lovely and secluded

Doc Let
Within commuting distance of busy Nha Trang, the beachfront is long and wide, with chalk-
white sand and shallow water, and there are several blissful resorts.
Ninh Van Bay
This place doesn't really exist - except in an alternate reality populated by European
royalty, film stars and the otherwise rich and secretive. It's home to the

al place owned by a welcoming local couple (a doctor and nurse) and Kim, the ever-help-
ful receptionist. Recently renovated, the rooms boast new mattresses, minibar, modern
bathrooms and some have a balcony. The location is great, on a quiet lane just off the
beach, and there's a lift.

Long-standing budget favourite that's moved a little upmarket but remains superb
value, with friendly management and 32 immaculately clean, spacious rooms. The five-
