Gia Lam Bus Station ( 04-3827 1569; Ð Ngoc Lam) 3km northeast of the centre on the far
bank of the Song Hong (Red River). Serves points east and northeast of Hanoi.
Luong Yen Bus Station ( 04-3942 0477; cnr Tran Quang Khai & Nguyen Khoai) 3km southeast of
the Old Quarter and serves destinations to the south and the east, including sleeper buses
to Hue and transport to Cat Ba Island.
Note that taxis at Luong Yen are notorious for their dodgy meters. Walk a couple of
blocks and hail one off the street.
My Dinh Bus Station ( 04-3768 5549; Ð Pham Hung) 7km west of the city and provides ser-
vices to the west and the north, including sleeper buses to Dien Bien Phu.
Giap Bat Bus Station ( 04-3864 1467; Ð Giai Phong) 7km south of the train station and used
by some buses from Ninh Binh and the south.
Tourist-style minibuses can be booked through most hotels and cafes. Popular destinations
include Halong Bay and Sapa. Prices are usually about 30% to 40% higher than the regu-
lar public bus, but include a hotel pick-up.
Open-tour bus tickets are available in Hanoi for destinations including Ninh Binh and
Hue.
Buses also connect Hanoi with China. Two daily services (at 7.30am and 7.30pm) to
Nanning (450,000d, eight hours) leave from the private terminal of Hong Ha ( 04-3824
7339; 204 Ɖ Tran Quang Khai) . Tickets should be purchased in advance and you may be asked
to show your Chinese visa.
