Trail-bike touring is a regional speciality, and we list several tour operators in the individual country
chapters. Hanoi-based Explore Indochina ( www.exploreindochina.com ) is one company that does cross-
border trips into Laos and sometimes Cambodia.
The following cover the whole of the Mekong with a range of general tours:
Exotissimo ( www.exotissimo.com ) Runs a wide range of tours throughout the Mekong region, including
cycling, trekking, golfing - you name it.
Handspan Travel ( www.handspan.com ) Vietnam-based Handspan dips into Laos and Cambodia with bi-
cycle tours and more.
Journeys Within ( 063-964748; www.journeys-within.com ) A boutique tourism company based in Siem
Reap that offers various cross-border trips in addition to appealing trips within Cambodia. Operates a charit-
able arm helping schools and communities.
Spice Roads ( www.spiceroads.com ) Specialises in cycling tours of the Mekong region.
Stray Asia ( www.straytravel.asia ) 'Hop-on hop-off' travel passes and budget-friendly adventure tours
across Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Train
Thailand and Vietnam Both have efficient railway networks, including the option of comfortable air-con
sleeper berths.
Cambodia Has a rail system, but it's being rehabilitated and passenger services are not offered.
Laos Has no railway at all, save a short link to Thailand via the Friendship Bridge to Nong Khai.
Cross-border trains There are no cross-border trains between Mekong countries. Thai trains serve the Thai
border towns of Nong Khai (for crossing into Laos), Aranya Prathet (for crossing into Cambodia) and Ubon
Ratchathani (for crossing into Laos).
