Fields sown for hemp stock seed are sown
at a very low density, of the order of 1.2 kg of
seed/ha. This yields an average harvest of
1.25 t seed/ha (an increase of ×1000). In addi-
tion to this multiplication factor, the low sow-
ing density also allows the fields to be inspected
and the crop further refined manually by culling
in order to obtain optimal quality.
Refinement consists of the:
removal of plants that do not conform to
both quantity and quality.
Different production schemes exist for hemp.
They are adapted to the variety used and the
qualitative objectives being sought.
Multiplication of varieties
The multiplication of certified monoecious
hemp seed (Fig. 4.16) has a distinct advantage:
the multiplication factor improves with each
generation and allows the industry to be
supplied by a small number of seed-producing
crop cycles.

cious) at the flowering stage to remove
their gametes, which would effect a rapid
return to the dioecious state
