These characteristics are leading more and
more manufacturers to adopt these new mater-
ials. Among the significant potential markets, it
is worth citing the following.
In the USA, some 500 kt/year of moulded
plastic containing natural fibres are produced
for the creation of flooring, terraces, swim-
ming pool sides, etc… This market is starting
to develop in Europe and should, over the
next few years, become increasingly impor-
tant, even if it does not achieve the importance
of the US market.
The construction industry is a promising
market. Of the 800 kt of polymer used in
France per year, the natural fibre compounds
have a potential of 60 kt, without counting the
