1.8 mm by 175 mm. The very short dimen-
sion of the condenser in the direction of the
fibres or bundles allows detailed scanning of
the local sum of the cross-sectional areas in
the longitudinal direction of the elements. The
test specimen is drawn with constant speed
between the electrodes of the measuring
condenser.
Before measurement, the samples had to
be conditioned at 20°C ± 2°C and relative
humidity 65% ± 2%. For each sample, three
measurements had to be taken using approxi-
mately 0.6 g of fibres or fibre bundles. Each
test specimen was held with one end in each
hand and straightened by slight tension and by
subjecting it to gentle shaking for preparing a
so-called 'A-beard' using the Fibroliner. This
A-beard was transferred into the sample slide
of the Almeter by using the specimen holder of
the Fibroliner and then measured.
