Before 2001, the system used by the EU
differed, both in nature and in terms of the
amount paid. It influenced prices markedly. It is
for this reason that we have chosen to use
information from this period. Information from
earlier periods has been retained and is availa-
ble to readers.
Discussion
INCOME
.
The income generated is the average
of that realized over the 3-year period 2001-
2003. This period was used because the data
are comparable, particularly with regard to the
cost of straw and the amount of EU subsidy.
