In-Depth Information
Surfing
Sydney has been synonymous with surfing ever since the Beach Boys effused about 'Aus-
tralia's Narrabeen' in 'Surfin' USA' (Narrabeen is one of Sydney's northern beaches). For
updates on what's breaking where, see www.coastalwatch.com or www.realsurf.com .
NEED TO KNOW
If you're not used to swimming at surf beaches, you may be unprepared for the dangers.
» Always swim between the red-and-yellow flags on lifesaver-patrolled beaches. Not only are these areas
patrolled, they're positioned away from dangerous rips and underwater holes. Plus you're much less likely to
get clobbered by a surfboard.
» If you get into trouble, hold up your hand to signal the lifesavers.
