Money
» The unit of currency is the Australian dollar, which is divided into 100 cents.
» Notes are colourful, plastic and washing-machine-proof, in denominations of $100, $50,
$20, $10 and $5.
» Coins come in $2, $1, 50c, 20c, 10c and 5c. The old 2c and 1c coins have been out of
circulation for years, so shops round prices up (or down) to the nearest 5c. Curiously, $2
coins are smaller than $1.
» Travellers cheques are something of a dinosaur these days, and they won't be accepted
everywhere. It's easier not to bother with them.
