Flickerfest
Bondi's international short- film festival ( www.flickerfest.com.au ) offers shorts, docos, an-
imation and workshops, and runs over 10 days in mid-January at Bondi Pavilion.
Australia Day
On 26 January Sydneysiders celebrate with picnics, barbecues, fireworks on the harbour
and, increasingly, much nationalistic flag waving and drunkenness.
Ferrython
Part of the Sydney Festival, this delightfully insane Australia Day contest sees a fleet of be-
spangled ferries race around the harbour.
Big Day Out
The biggest day on the alt-rock calendar, this touring festival ( www.bigdayout.com ) hits
Sydney Olympic Park on Australia Day.
