EATING
Sandy Manly has dozens of fairly average eateries with a couple of starlets in their midst. Local surf-hippies guar-
antee a sprinkling of organic and vegetarian options, too.
Manly
BAREFOOT COFFEE TRADERS $
Run by surfer lads serving fair-trade organic coffee from a bathroom-sized shop, Barefoot
heralds a new wave of Manly cool. Food is limited but the Belgian chocolate waffles go
magically well with macchiato. Opposite the wharf, there's a second
cafe
(40 East Esplanade;
grab some sublime patisserie and devour it over a coffee.
CAFE
BELGRAVE CARTEL$
(6 Belgrave St; mains $5-13; breakfast & lunch daily, dinner Thu; Manly)
Little Cartel may be grungy
but it's nowhere as sinister as it sounds; the only drug being peddled here is pure, unadul-
terated caffeine. 'Mismatched everything' seems to be the design brief and the food is re-
stricted to the likes of paninis and toasted sandwiches (called jaffles in these parts), but it's
certainly tasty and served with a smile.
CAFE
HUGOS MANLY$$
ITALIAN
Occupying an altogether more glamorous location than its Kings Cross parent, Hugos
Manly serves the same acclaimed pizzas but tops them with harbour views. A dedicated
crew concocts cocktails, or just slide in for a cold beer.
CHAT THAI$
views but delivers on flavour.
