SHOPPING
Surf shops are the mainstay of the beach shopping scene. Up in Bondi Junction, serious shoppers from all over the
city flock to Westfield, the mall-to-end-all-malls.
WESTFIELD BONDI JUNCTION
Vast. That's the only word to describe Australia's flashest shopping mall. Expect to get lost;
the space-time continuum does funny things as you explore the 438 stores set over six
levels. It's even worse in the underground car park.

tees...even luggage - Bondi's coolest surf store has just everything the stylish surfer's heart
might desire (except for spray-in hair bleacher; you'll still need to take your paper bag to a
discreet chemist for that). Old boards hang from the ceiling, while new boards fill up the
racks (JS, Al Merrick, Channel Islands, Takayama).

The kids are at the beach on Sunday while their school fills up with Bondi char-
acters rummaging through tie-dyed secondhand clothes, books, beads, earrings, aromather-
apy oils, candles, old records and more. There's a farmers' market on Saturdays.

secondhand bookshop and cafe is so un-Bondi: there's not a model or a surfer in sight.
Locals, students and academics hang out reading, drinking coffee and acting like Americ-
ans in Paris. Join them for some lentil stew and theological discourse around communal
tables.
