DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
If you're a backpacker from anywhere cold and northern hemispheric, it makes sense that you'd want to cram as
much beery beach time into your Sydney holiday as possible. You'll find plenty of company in the backpacker
haunts along the coast, plus a few slick credit-card-maxing cocktail joints as well.

( 9130 3152; www.northbondirsl.com.au ; 120 Ramsgate Ave; noon-midnight Mon-Thu, 10am-midnight Fri-
Sun; 380, 389) This Returned & Services League bar ain't fancy, but with views no one can
afford and drinks that everyone can, who cares? Bring ID, as nonmembers need to prove
that they live at least 5km away. There are live bands most Saturdays, trivia on Tuesdays
and cheap steaks on Wednesdays.

CORNER HOUSE

Three spaces - the Kitchen (wine bar), Dining Room (restaurant) and Living Room (bar) -
make this a happy house, especially once you hit the cocktails.

ICEBERGS BAR

( 9365 9000; www.idrb.com ; 1 Notts Ave; noon-midnight Tue-Sat, to 10pm Sun; 380) Most folks
come here to eat next door, but the ooh-la-la Icebergs bar is a brilliant place for a drink.
The hanging chairs, colourful sofas and ritzy cocktails are fab, but the view looking north
across Bondi Beach is the absolute killer. Dress sexy and make sure your bank account is
up to the strain.

Weekends at this big boxy pub are a boisterous multilevel alcoholiday, with Bondi types
(bronzed, buff and brooding) and woozy out-of-towners playing pool, drinking beer and
digging live bands and DJs.
