In-Depth Information
(Lower Level, 1 Notts Ave; mains $10-12; 7am-5pm; 380)
Tucked within the Icebergs pool com-
plex (there's no need to pay admission if you're only eating), this crab-sized nook is the
kind of place locals would prefer wasn't in this topic. Toasted sandwiches, muesli and ba-
nana bread star on the small but perfectly formed menu; coffees are automatic double
shots unless you wimp out. The views are blissful.
CAFE, DELI
EARTH FOOD STORE$
organic cafe, deli and naturopath under one roof, this eatery serves up a healthy range of
salads, quiches, sushi, panini and tennis-ball-sized felafel balls, plus takeaway nuts, herbs,
spices, teas, fruit and veg. We're so glad they don't serve any of that awful Martian food;
we hear the food miles are astronomical. Counter seating is limited.
BONDI TRATTORIA$$

;
34 Campbell Pde; breakfast $9-21, lunch $16-24, dinner $19-35;
8am-late; 380)
For a Bondi brunch, you can't go past the trusty 'Trat', as it's known in
these parts. Tables spill out onto Campbell Pde for those hungry for beach views, while
inside there's a trad trat feel: wooden tables and the obligatory Tuscan mural and black-
and-white photography. As the day progresses, pizza, pasta and risotto dominate the
menu.
ITALIAN
SABBABA$
more boardshorts than black coats on view at this Middle Eastern joint in Bondi's main
Hassidic strip. Falafels served in pitta are a bargain, and there's a sticky-sweet array of
baklava to finish off with. There are branches in Westfield Sydney and Newtown.
ISRAELI
THE SHOP$
and a wine bar (with a name that reflects neither), this tiny space serves cooked break-
fasts, pastries, sandwiches, salads and a tapas menu from 4pm. It's a bit self-consciously
cool, squiggly graffiti and all, but the food and coffee are excellent.
