( 9356 3848; www.oldfitzroy.com.au ; 129 Dowling St; 11am-midnight Mon-Sat, 3-10pm Sun; Kings
Cross) Islington meets Melbourne in the back streets of Woolloomooloo: this totally unpre-
tentious theatre pub is also a decent old-fashioned boozer in its own right. There are airy
streetside tables, and a grungy upstairs area with a pool table and scruffy lounges.
WATERBAR

( 8356 2553; www.waterbaratblue.com ; Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf; 5-10pm Sun & Mon, to midnight Tue-
Sat; Kings Cross) After a few martinis in the heart of Woolloomooloo's Finger Wharf, time
becomes meaningless and escape pointless. This lofty romantic space sucks you in to its
pink-love world of candles, corners, deep lounges and ottomans as big as beds. Great for
business (if you really must), but better for lurve.
BAR
TILBURY
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
( 9368 1955; www.tilburyhotel.com.au ; 12-18 Nicholson St; Kings Cross) Once the dank domain of
burly sailors and salty ne'er-do-wells, the Tilbury now sparkles on Sydney's social scene.
Yuppies, yachties, suits, gays and straights alike populate the light, bright interiors. The
bistro, bar and beer garden are packed on weekends (especially on Sunday afternoon); DJs
play soul, funk and rare-groove Thursday to Sunday. And sailors can still get a beer!
