In-Depth Information
Every Outsider Is an Insider
Today, the terraces are no longer crumbling but Kings Cross is still known predominantly for its nightlife. The
village embraces all sorts of residents, from the loose posse of homeless people on Darlinghurst Rd, to authors
and film-makers, to dealers and pimps, to lawyers and doctors, to ex-prime ministers. It's a superlative place for
people-watching, which is why I still live here.
Insider Tips
A stroll along Macleay St will reveal some of the most stunning art deco architecture in Australia, while a walk
down Victoria St, below a leafy cathedral of trees, showcases some of the colony's first Victorian houses; and at
the end of the street is one of the most breathtaking panoramas of Sydney Harbour. Some venues I'd recom-
mend: Piccolo Bar ( CLICK HERE ) , a tiny bohemian cafe dating back to the early 1950s; the outdoor restaurants
and bars along Kellett St, strung with magical fairy lights; the Old Fitzroy (opposite), for an old fashioned Eng-
lish pub experience; LL Wine & Dine ( CLICK HERE ), for fine Asian dining and great service; Hinky Dinks ( CLICK
HERE ) , for luscious cocktails and 1950s ambience.
