cash splashed about the Bank, but it still attracts a kooky mix of lesbians (especially for
Lady L on Wednesdays), students, sports fans, gay guys and just about everyone else -
they just don't wear their ugh boots to the pub anymore. The portfolio includes a rooftop
terrace, cocktail bar, Thai restaurant and DJs.

What a brilliant
pub! A block back from the King St fray, the 150-year-old Courthouse is the kind of place
where everyone from pool-playing goth lesbians to magistrates can have a beer and feel
right at home. How ironic - the complete absence of social judgement in a pub called the
Courthouse. Beer specials, decent house red and good pub grub, too.

JESTER SEEDS
is very Newtown. By that we mean a bit gloomy, a little grungy and very hip, with the re-
quisite mismatched furniture, graffiti, obtuse name, astroturf 'garden' and a classic but
credible soundtrack. And the cocktails are great.

The name exaggerates this bar's skinniness, but not by much. Downstairs the bar-
tenders serve old-fashioned cocktails and a good range of wine, while upstairs there's in-
teresting art (for sale) and a tiny deck.

Intimate 1920s-themed Vanguard stages live music most nights (including some
well-known names), as well as burlesque, comedy and classic-movie screenings. Most
seats are reserved for dinner-and-show diners.
