EVELEIGH FARMERS' MARKET$
stallholders sell their goodies at Sydney's best farmers' market, held in a heritage-listed
railway workshop. Food and coffee stands do a brisk business; celebrity chef Kylie
Kwong can often be spotted cooking up a storm.
MARKET
Newtown
INTERNATIONAL
BLOODWOOD$$
Relax over a few drinks and a progression of small plates (we love those polenta chips!)
in the front bar, or make your way to the rear to enjoy soundly conceived and expertly
cooked dishes from across the globe. The decor is industrial-chic and the vibe is alternat-
ive - very Newtown. It doesn't take bookings.
LUXE$
(194 Missenden Rd; breakfast $6-11, lunch $10-16; breakfast & lunch; Macdonaldtown)
Campos next
door might be the pinnacle of caffeine culture but if you want to sit down, read the paper
and eat something more substantial, Luxe is the dux. The menu is limited (a couple of
cooked brekky options; pasta or fish for lunch) but the counter of this industrial-chic
bakery-cafe is chocka with chunky sandwiches, moist cakes and delicate tarts.
CAFE
CAFE
VARGABAR ESPRESSO$
& Sun; ; Newtown)
A diminutive dark-pink cafe with an electric-blue coffee machine,
Varga trades on big breakfasts and generates too many hard decisions for 8am. The pesto
fried eggs or the breakfast burrito? Both?
