In-Depth Information
Ride the ferry from Circular Quay to chilled-out
Cremorne Point , surrounded by the native shrub of
Cremorne Reserve. For views, wander out to
Robertsons Point on the tip of the reserve.
Heading north, you'll trundle past the well-tended plots of palms, ferns and philodendrons in Lex &
Ruby's Garden , named after the local couple who lovingly tended it for decades; it's now National
Trust-protected.
Keep walking around the other side of exclusive Mosman Bay . Check out the historic stone building called
the Barn , an early colonial structure that's now a scout hall. Just beyond is the Wharf Store; go up the stairs
to Mosman St, following it left to McLeod St.
Turn left at McLeod St, scoot across Musgrave St and take the stairs down to the other side, then cross Raglan
St, where more stairs descend to the shore. Wind around
Little Sirius Cove and take the stone steps onto a
shoreline path, which runs around Taronga Zoo.
Before you reach the zoo, take the stairs down to
Whiting Beach (look for the 'No Dogs' sign), a secluded
sandy bay. Further along the lush, shady path is the
Taronga Zoo entrance and ferry wharf.
Keep following the path into Sydney Harbour National Park, through
Bradleys Head and
Clifton
Gardens , where you'll link up with a track that has amazing views of the heads. Next up is
Chowder Bay
Naval Base , with its pedestrian-accessible foreshore.
Wander over to the lookout on the right, which has a glorious cityscape panorama and views over the bat-
tlements that once defended Sydney from threats both real and imagined. Continue down the path as it darts
through bushy scrubland.
Follow the track past some magnificently gnarled red gum trees on the right-hand side, then down some steps to
Balmoral Beach .
