Encased in English-style grounds within the gardens, Government House OFFLINE MAP
GOOGLE MAP ( 9931 5222; www.hht.net.au ; Macquarie St; grounds 10am-4pm, tours 10.30am-3pm Fri-Sun;
Circular Quay) is a Gothic sandstone mansion that served as the home of New South
Wales' governors from 1846 to 1996. The governor, who now resides in Admiralty
House, still uses it for weekly meetings and hosting visiting heads of state and royalty.
Unless there's a bigwig in town, you can tour through the fussy furnishings; look for
paintings by Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts and Russell Drysdale. Disabled access is OK,
but it's best to call in advance.
