Frequency Band .
Absorption Coefficients. Indication of
how much sound is absorbed by a
material.
Acceptable Noise Level (ANL). Defined
as the maximum level of background
noise that an individual is willing to
accept while listening to speech.
Access. To make contact with or gain
access to; be able to reach, approach,
enter. In the case of a disability, access
is synonymous with equal access, but
not necessarily equal outcomes.
Accommodation. The process of
adapting or adjusting to someone or
something; a convenient arrangement,
settlement, or compromise.
Acoustic Coupling. Describes the
use of a microphone in hearing
aids and implantable devices to
pick up the transmission of speech
and other desirable sounds via air
conduction.
Activity Limitations. A difficulty
encountered by an individual in
executing a task or action.
Advocacy. Self or public support for,
or recommendation of, a particular
cause, policy, or need.
Air Conduction. Conduction of sound
waves to the inner ear through the ear
canal and middle ear.
Alerting Device. A helpful modern
advancement tool that cautions
individuals with or without hearing
loss to make them aware of the
existence of an environmental
occurrence using auditory, visual, or
tactile cues.
Amplitude. The maximum extent of
a vibration or oscillation measured
from the position of the equilibrium.
App/Application. An application,
typically a small, specialized program
downloaded onto computers and/or
mobile devices.
Assistive. To give support or aid to;
help; augment; enhance.
