Gay & Lesbian Travellers
Homosexuality is legal in Italy and generally well tolerated in Venice and the Veneto. At the same time, federal officials,
including former prime minister Berlusconi, have made openly disparaging remarks about homosexuality. ArciGay
( www.arcigay.it ) , the national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organisation, has information on the GLBT scene
in Italy. The useful website www.gay.it (in Italian) lists gay and lesbian events across the country, but options in Venice
are slim. Head to Padua for a wider range of gay-friendly nightlife and the nearest GLBT organisation, ArciGay Tralal-
tro (
049 876 24 58; www.tralaltro.it ; Corso Garibaldi 41) .
