( 041 73 64 60; www.toffolo.com ; Fondamenta Vetrai 37; 10am-6pm Mon-Sat; Colonna) Classic
gold-leafed winged goblets and mind-boggling miniatures are the trademarks of this Mur-
ano glass-blower, but you'll also find some dramatic departures: chiselled cobalt-blue
vases, glossy black candlesticks that look like Dubai minarets, and highly hypnotic
pendants.

( 041 73 52 99; www.emiliaburano.it ; Piazza Galuppi 205; Burano) Doyenne Emilia di Ammendola
is a third-generation lace-maker and has passed on her skills to her son and daughter.
You'll often find her son, Lorenzo, at the drawing board designing elaborate floral
schemes, which are then brought to life by a team of local women. Prices for off-the-shelf
tablewear start at €60 and rise rapidly into the hundreds for tablecloths.
Cut Egyptian cottons, embroidered Irish linens and towels are also available. Upstairs
Emilia's personal collection showcases priceless antique pieces, including an 18th-century
wedding dress, which took seven women three years to complete.
