Sleeping
With many Venetians opening historic homes to visitors as B&Bs and rental getaways, you can become a local
overnight here. Venice was once known for charmingly decrepit hotels where English poets quietly expired, but new
designer-chic boutique hotels are spiffing up historic palaces and attracting a rock-star following. Expect to pay €50 to
€150 midrange, plus tourist tax (hostels are exempt). Some upscale hotels offer vouchers for overnight parking in Tron-
chetto; otherwise it's at least €21 per day. San Marco hotels are ideally located, but the trade-offs are light, space and
noise.
