cloister was purchased by Prince Charles of Prussia and rebuilt in his summer castle in
Berlin in 1850.
Today, thanks to EU funding and a huge local effort, La Certosa has been revived as a
marina complex under the Vento di Venezia umbrella headed by former Italian sailing
champion Alberto Sonino. Years of work have also been invested in the historic parkland
with its groves of poplar and ash. In 2012 this work received a damaging setback when a
tornado ripped across the island, felling trees and smashing boats. Although most of the
park has now reopened, areas will remain closed for many months to ensure safety and
complete ongoing restoration.

41 and 42 connect San Pietro and Sant'Elena with
Certosa, but you must request the stop. At night the hotel provides a shuttle from
Sant'Elena, Lido and San Pietro di Castello.

Certosa's yacht marina now embraces a fully fledged sustainable-tourism project, with a
sailing school, a yoga centre, public nature trails and a restored 15th-century charterhouse
for educational programs. To accompany it an 18-room hotel offers a range of sailing,
kayaking and cycling packages and an alfresco restaurant-bar. It's a great place to escape
the crowds on a hot summer day, and share a drink with the sailing fraternity on the patio
