DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
Around sunset, the inhabitants of Castello converge on the waterfront and the
Giardini for the passeggiata (evening stroll), then disperse into the campi for aperitivi .
Cafes in Campo Santa Maria di Formosa, Campo Zanipolo and along Via Garibaldi
become prime drinking spots by night - though for cocktails with views of glowing
Palladio monuments across the lagoon, you should splash out at hotel bars along the
Riva degli Schiavoni.

San Zaccaria) Gondolas glide in to dock along the quay, while across the lagoon the white-
marble edifice of Palladio's San Giorgio Maggiore turns from gold to pink in the waters of
the canal: the late-afternoon scene from the Hotel Danieli's top-floor balcony bar definitely
calls for a toast. Linger over a spritz (€10) or cocktail - preferably the sunset-tinted signa-
ture Danieli cocktail of gin, apricot and orange juices, and a splash of grenadine.
