La Serra
In 1894 Napoleon's gardens were furnished with a fashionable iron-framed, greenhouse (

panded into a community hub and a centre for propagation: many plants grown here went
to adorn the municipal flowerbeds of the Lido and the ballrooms of aristocratic palazzi .
Restored in 2010, it now hosts events and workshops from paper making to yoga.
Parco delle Rimembranze
At the eastern limit of the gardens, on the island of Sant'Elena, is this memorial park.
Planted with umbrella pines, each originally commemorating a fallen soldier of WWI, it's
a tranquil spot with postcard views of the Bacino di San Marco. Families gather here to sit
on the benches, roller skate around the rink and play on the slides and swings. Apart from
providing a shady respite in a relentlessly urban environment, it offers a real slice of Vene-
tian life.
