Growth (standard length and body weight) significantly increased in both experimental groups,
at both larval (47 dph) and juvenile (75 dph) stages. The increases in body weight and total
length were in agreement with the expression of genes involved in growth metabolism (IGFI
and myostatin) and in animal welfare (HSP70). The higher expression of IGFI and the lower
levels of myostatin in groups fed probiotics were concomitant with the lower expression of
HSP70 and glucocorticoid receptor (GR), evidencing the beneficial role of the supplied
Bacil-
lus
mixture on fish welfare; however, no differences in survival rate were found among groups
(Avella
et al
. 2010b).
