In-Depth Information
Just over the Ponte di Tiberio, Rimini's old fishing quarter has been freshened up and is
now a colourful patchwork of cobbled lanes, trendy trattorias, wine bars and trim terraced
houses (read: prime real estate). Look out for the numerous murals.
Activities
Beaches
Rimini beaches are Italy's proverbial California. Spend 10 minutes on the promenade in
August and you'll realise that all kinds of new trends kick off here - wacky or otherwise.
You'll see Nordic beach-walkers, office workers getting a reiki massage, gym enthusiasts
pumping iron, clubbers in search of a hangover cure, computer geeks surfing on their sun
loungers, and more.
In peak season it's hard to see the sand through all the assembled umbrellas, sun loun-
gers, amusement parks and crowded beach bars. Suffice it to say there's 40km of it,
mostly backed by clamorous hotel development.

Theme Parks
In a beach resort, garish theme parks are an inevitable by-product and Rimini has its fair
share. The truly committed can buy a Fantasticket ( www.larivieradeiparchi.it/fantasticket.php )
granting reduced-price admission to multiple parks. The tourist office can provide a full
list. Major ones include Fiabilandia ( www.fiabilandia.it ; Via Cardano 15; adult/child €23/16; ) ,
which focuses on fun for kids, and Aquafàn ( www.aquafan.it ; Via Ascoli Piceno 6; adult/child €28/
20; 10am-6.30pm Jun-mid-Sep) , a huge water park in Riccione (take bus 42 or 45 from
Riccione station).

Gradisca
On 21 June Rimini marks the beginning of summer with dancing, fireworks and eating -
it's estimated that revellers consume some two tonnes of grilled sardines and 12,000L of
sangiovese wine in one night.
