ions mix with wine snobs swapping oenological tips in this atmospheric wine bar-cum-
restaurant beautified with floor-to-ceiling shelves stuffed with bottles, books and other
curiosities. Use it for its excellent aperitivi and, when the frescoed ceiling starts to spin,
you can either stay put or make tracks for your main course elsewhere.

Getting There & Around
ATM ( www.atm.ra.it ) local buses depart from Piazza Farini. Intercity buses for Ferrara and
towns along the coast leave from the bus station on the east side of the railroad tracks
(reached by a pedestrian underpass). Punto Bus (Piazza Fanini; 6.30am-7.30pm Mon-Sat, from
7.30am Sun) , on the piazza, is ATM's information and ticketing office.
Ravenna is on a branch (A14 dir ) of the main east-coast A14 autostrada. The SS16
(Via Adriatica) heads south to Rimini and on down the coast. The main car parks are east
of the train station and north of the Basilica di San Vitale.
Trains connect with Bologna (€6.80, 1¼ hours, hourly), Ferrara (€6.20, 1¼ hours, 14
daily), Rimini (€4.40, one hour, hourly) and the south coast.
In town, cycling is popular. The main (Via Salara) branch of the tourist office offers a
free bike-hire service for visitors. Register by presenting a photo ID, then simply grab a
yellow bike from one of the cycle stalls outside and return it to the same rack within nor-
mal business hours.
Just outside Ravenna's train station, Cooperativa Sociale la Formica (Piazza Farini; bikes per
hour/day €1.10/8.50;
7am-7pm Mon-Fri) also rents out bikes.
