Getting There & Away
AIR
Bologna's Guglielmo Marconi airport ( 051 647 96 15; www.bologna-airport.it ) is 8km northw-
est of the city. It's served by over two dozen airlines including easyJet (daily flights to
Gatwick) and Ryanair (daily flights to Stansted).
BUS
Intercity buses leave from the main bus station ( www.autostazionebo.it ) off Piazza XX
Settembre, just southeast of the train station. However, for nearly all destinations, the
train's a better option.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Bologna is linked to Milan, Florence and Rome by the A1 Autostrada del Sole. The A13
heads directly to Ferrara, Padua and Venice, and the A14 to Rimini and Ravenna. Bologna
is also on the SS9 (Via Emilia), which connects Milan to the Adriatic coast. The SS64
goes to Ferrara.
Major car-hire companies are represented at Guglielmo Marconi airport and outside the
train station. City offices include Budget (Via G Amendola 12f) and Hertz (Via G Amendola 16a) .
TRAIN
Bologna is a major transport junction for northern Italy. The high-speed train to Florence
(€24) takes only 37 minutes. Rome (€56, two hours 20 minutes) and Milan (regional €16,
2¼ hours; Eurostar €40, one hour) also offer quick links.
Frequent trains from Bologna serve cities throughout Emilia-Romagna.
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
Aerobus shuttles ( www.atc.bo.it ) depart from the main train station for Guglielmo Marconi air-
port every 15 to 30 minutes between 5.30am and 11.10pm. The 20-minute journey costs
€5 (tickets can be bought on board).
BICYCLE
You can hire a bike at Autorimessa Pincio (Via dell'Indipendenza 71z; per 12/24hr €13/18;
7am-
midnight Mon-Sat) , located near the bus station.
