FERRARI & OTHER CAR FANTASIES
Fiats might be functional, but to appreciate the true beauty of Italian workmanship you must visit the
small triangle of land between Modena and Bologna sometimes called 'Motor Valley' where they con-
struct the world's finest luxury cars, namely Ferraris and Lamborghinis. The metaphoric haj for all pet-
rolheads is to the Galleria Ferrari ( www.galleria.ferrari.com ; Via Ferrari 43; adult/reduced €13/9;
9.30am-7pm May-Sep, to 6pm Oct-Apr) in Maranello; they come here to obsess over the world's
largest collection of Ferraris, including Formula 1 exhibits, a trajectory of the cars' mechanical evolu-
tion and a revolving feature of 40 of the landmark models. A second Ferrari museum, the Museo Casa
Enzo Ferrari has recently opened in Modena with a shuttle bus linking the two.
More treats are available at the Lamborghini Museum ( 051 681 76 11; www.lamborghini.com ;
Via Modena 12; adult/reduced €13/10; 10am-12.30pm & 1.30-5pm) , situated 20km east of Modena
in the village of Sant'Agata Bolognese. Here you get the chance to visit the company factory where
Lamborghinis are custom-made. Factory tours must be prebooked and cost €40 - small change com-
pared to the gold-on-wheels you'll be looking at. Bus 576 runs from Bologna bus station to Sant'Agata
Bolognese.
